Our Story

We (Joehan Erasmus and Louise Edmonds) met on a building site in Lonehill over 30 years ago and have been collaborating ever since as architect and interior designer. First at Marina Martinique and later in our own studio as Edmonds & Erasmus Design. We were both also involved in various facets of the hospitality industry for many years,

Fast forward to 2021, a year of reflection and transformation. We felt a strong desire to shift our focus away from urban settings, steering towards a new direction that would allow us to share stories of our natural environment through design. Armed with our exceptional design and hospitality skills, we set out to create distinctive destinations across Africa.

What captivates us is the immediate context that each property draws from its location and history, creating a unique narrative waiting to be told through design and furnishings. And so, Places Designed was born—a manifestation of our vision to blend the natural world with inspired design and hospitality.

We offer architectural and interior design services for a diverse range of settings, including lodges, tented camps, remote private homes, and boutique hotels. Whether you’re embarking on a new development or seeking to reimagine an existing property, we’re here to assist you in crafting compelling concepts.

Our holistic approach imbues authenticity into every project, seamlessly weaving it into its unique surroundings. From the initial concept to the final guest experience, we meticulously curate every detail, crafting spaces that inspire and create magical moments for you and your guests alike.
