Lone Tree Wilderness Camp
@ Tswehe Wildlife
We were recently given the opportunity to use our skills on a magnificent property in Botswana that forms part of the Tuli block. A very simple project that cemented our belief that this is our future.
Together with the owners we developed an old outbuilding, an ancient tree and an overgrazed piece of land into “Lone Tree”, a simple yet spectacular wilderness camp with 8 tented rooms and a central hospitality centre
We focused the design around the The Lone Tree which overlooks the savannah and large waterhole from a slightly elevated position. Here in the shade of the ancient leadwood tree we created the perfect spot to relax and watch the animals coming to drink and cool themselves.
We used dried leadwood stumps that we found on the property as supports for the awning roof of the main building, invoking the colours and textures of the environment into the interior so that it seamlessly flows from inside to outside, warmly lit at night with grass light fittings and candles, showcasing this remarkable setting
Everything is about simplicity and drama. revoking memories of the history of the area and paying homage to the spectacular surroundings.
